About us …

Celticcoinage.org is the website of the Nomisma.org Iron Age Working Group.

We are developing a Common Reference Model to facilitate the use of the concepts of Linked Open Data in Celtic numismatics.

A longer-term aim is the development of a Virtual Union Catalogue for Celtic coins, Online Celtic Coinage (OCC), following the paradigm of Online Coins of the Roman Empire (OCRE) and similar portals based on the vocabulary and ontology of Nomisma.org.

A prototype of OCC employing the Cultural Heritage Management System Dédalo that powers the prize-winning portal Moneda Iberica was initially developed within the scope of the BMBF project “ClaReNet”. It is also being used as the repository and online publication system of the DFG project DeReNum.

A consortium is now being formed to to pursue an application for European funding to develop the portal (https://celticcoinage.org/launching-a-consortium-for-occ/).
